The Chicago River Esplanade is located along the north bank of the Chicago River between Michigan Avenue and the Columbus Drive Bridge. This area today includes the NBC Tower, the University of Chicago Gleacher Center and the 401 N. Michigan Avenue building. R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (RMCA) was hired by Lend Lease, Inc. (formerly Equitable Real Estate) to provide complete Owner's Representation Services for the new construction of the river walkway and existing facility rehabilitations.

Phase I consisted of the design and construction of a $4.5 million continuous river walkway with a series of landscaped cascading plazas and an extension of the existing Cityfront Plaza Drive structure. The 401 N. Michigan Avenue building garage and lower concourse area were modified and an enclosed pedestrian corridor was constructed, connecting the building to the adjacent University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. A unique pedestrian river underpass at the
Columbus Drive Bridge extending over the river was also
constructed.

Phase II consisted of the $800,000 reconstruction of a 100-year old section of seawall along the Chicago riverbank. The project successfully addressed challenging site conditions regarding structural support and waterproofing of elements along the river.
