Going Green, in a Big Way

CARE+

"Going Green" has become a household phrase. Whether you recently went paperless on your bills, or just installed energy efficient windows in your home, you have contributed to this awesome responsibility.

Our role in the aviation industry recognizes its role in "Going Green," as well. Fed Ex, a company already known for their "green" practices, recently opened the largest green roof on a freestanding building at Chicago's O'Hare Airport. The FedEx green roof at O’Hare is part of the company’s new sorting facility that was relocated as part of the O'Hare Modernization Program. RMCA served as the Owner’s Representative for Fed Ex on this project. We provided oversight and relocation of multiple facilities and construction on several buildings. This new 175,000 square foot roof will reduce air pollution, airport noise, and energy costs by 35% a year.

The significance and size of the project has gained some public awareness. The ENO Transportation Foundation recently posted an article on their website to showcase the FedEx project, and its significance in the aviation industry. We are grateful to have had opportunity to be a part of such a significant step towards "Going Green."

GIS Technology Proves a Point

Using GIS Technology, this photo identifies the approximately 4 million I-Pass Users and their current locations across the United States.

It’s said… "a picture is worth a thousand words"-- it also can deliver a compelling message. RMCA is helping to do just that, through our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Services. GIS technology allows users to map, analyze and assess real world problems.

RMCA GIS Technician John Foster worked with the Illinois Tollway Executive and Planning staff to deliver graphic depictions of the importance of the Tollway system to the regional economy.

A number of the graphics using GIS technologies were utilized by the Tollway as part of its public information meetings on the $12 billion capital plan, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.
